INVITATION TO APPLY FOR ADMISSION INTO NON DEGREE PROGRAMMES FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2017/2018

PracticalsThe Sebastian Kolowa Memorial University (SEKOMU) is located in Lushoto District, Tanga Region. SEKOMU is a full-fledged University which was transformed from the former Sebastian Kolowa University College of Tumaini University Makumira. It was established in October 2007 by the North-Eastern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (NED-ELCT).

SEKOMU is an “Equal-Opportunity” institution of higher learning, committed to a policy of student admission regardless of one’s race, ethnicity, religion, gender, physical or any other disability, provided that one qualifies for the programme he/she applied.

Applications are invited from qualified Tanzanians and non-Tanzanians for admission to the

Non Degree programmes offered at SEKOMU as follows:

A. HEALTH RELATED PROGRAMMES

SPECIFIC MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION INTO THE VARIOUS PROGRAMMES:

A. HEALTH PROGRAMMES

 

1. ENTRY REQUIREMENT FOR TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE IN CLINICAL MEDICINE PROGRAMME

  • Applicants for the Technician Certificate course in Clinical Medicine (Clinical Assistant) must have a minimum of ‘D’ pass in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and Mathematics. A pass in English and Mathematics is compulsory.

2. ENTRY REQUIREMENT FOR BASIC TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE IN COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAMME

  • To be eligible for entry into Basic Technician Certificate in Community Health, the applicant must have a minimum of four ‘D’ passes including Biology.

3. ENTRY REQUIREMENT FOR DIPLOMA IN CLINICAL MEDICINE PROGRAMME

  • Applicant through Direct entry into an Ordinary Diploma Course in Clinical Medicine (Clinical Officer) must have a minimum of ‘C’ credits in Biology and Chemistry, and a ‘D’ passes in Physics, English and Mathematics. A pass in English and Mathematics is compulsory.

4. ENTRY REQUIREMENT FOR DIPLOMA IN CLINICAL MEDICINE (UPGRADING) PROGRAMME

  • Admission to this level will be open to both pre and in-service candidates with Technician Certificate in Clinical medicine from a recognised institution.

B. OTHER PROGRAMMES.

 

5. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMA IN LAW PROGRAMME:

To be eligible for direct entry into Diploma in Law programme, the following requirements must be met:
  • Four passes in appropriate subjects at Certificate of Secondary Education (C.S.E.E) or equivalent AND
  • Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (A.C.S.E.E) or equivalent, with at least one pass and one Subsidiary/Unsatisfactory.
OR
  • Four passes in appropriate subjects at Certificate of Secondary Education (C.S.E.E) AND Certificate in Law from any recognized Institution.

6. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION PROGRAMME:

Applicants for admission into the Diploma in Business Administration Programme must be holders of:
  • At least one pass in the Advanced level of Secondary Education A-level or its equivalent.
OR
  • Four passes in appropriate subjects at Certificate of Secondary Education (C.S.E.E) AND Certificate in Business Administration or Management of at least a Second class level from a recognized institution,

7. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMA ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE:

Applicants for admission into the Diploma in Accounting and Finance must be holder of:
  • Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least one pass in the Advanced level of Education or Equivalent. Where the pass does not include Mathematics or Commerce or Accountancy, the applicant must have passed with a credit in Basic Mathematics or Commerce or Bookkeeping at the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education Examination O-level or its equivalent.
OR
  • Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with four passes. The pass must be in either Mathematics or Commerce or Accountancy AND Certificate in Accountancy from any recognized institution.

8. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMA IN THEOLOGY:

Applicants for admission into the Diploma in Theology Programme must be holders of:
  • Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with at least four passes;
OR
  • Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least one pass;
OR
  • Passing the SEKOMU Diploma in theology Entry Examination. Eligibility to sit for this Diploma Entry Examination will be determined by the emphasis that one must have at least O-Level Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with three passes or A-level certificate of Secondary Education with at least two subsidiaries;
OR
  • A Certificate in Theology or the equivalent with an overall passes of at least B from a recognized institutions.

9. ENTRY REQUIREMENT FOR CERTIFICATE IN LAW PROGRAMME.

To be eligible for entry into Certificate in Law programme, the applicant must have met one of the following requirements:
  • Four passes or above in appropriate subjects, one of which has to be English in the Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations.
OR
  • Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education with at least one principal pass in one of appropriate subjects and, in case this is not English, credits pass in English at O-level or a subsidiary at A-level.

10. ENTRY REQUIREMENT FOR BASIC CERTIFICATE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION PROGRAMME

  • To be eligible for entry into Basic Certificate in Business Administration programme, the applicant must have three passes or above in any subjects in the Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations.

11. ENTRY REQUIREMENT FOR BASIC CERTIFICATE IN ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE PROGRAMME

  • To be eligible for entry into Basic Certificate in Accounting and Finance programme, the applicant must have four passes or above in any subjects in the Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations.

 NOTE: Diploma/Certificate in Law, Accounting and Finance, Business Administration Programmes are all offered at SEKOMU – TANGA CENTER. Basic Technician Certificate in Clinical Medicine, Basic Technician Certificate in Community Health, Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Diploma in Clinical Medicine -UPGRADING are offered at SEKOMU - BUMBULI CLINICAL OFFICER TRAINING CENTER.

The completed form shall be accompanied by pay-in-slip of non-refundable Application Fee of Tshs 30, 000/= for non Health Allied Sciences programmes and Tshs 40, 000/= For Health Allied Science programmes. All payments shall be deposited to the Sebastian Kolowa Memorial University bank accounts, which are:

Please make sure the name of the applicant and aim for payment appears on the pay-in- slip.

Applicants must:
  1. Give full particulars of citizenship (including a copy of the birth certificate) and enclose photocopies of O-Level/A-Level.
  2. Pay a non-refundable application fee Tshs 30, 000/= for non Health programmes and Tshs 40, 000/= For Health programmes. Applications without the required application fee will not be processed. Applicants must ascertain themselves that they possess the minimum entrance qualifications before they pay the fees as the fees will not be refunded under any circumstances.
  3. Deposit all fees into the SEKOMU bank account as indicated above.
  4. Understand that they will be selected to join the University basing on their qualifications only.


Deadline for receiving application forms is strictly at 4:00 p.m. on 20th August 2017.

It is an offence to submit false information when applying for admission. Applicants who will be discovered to have submitted a forged certificate or any other false information will not be considered and appropriate legal action will be taken against them.
